So you want to be an entrepreneur in the bioeconomy?

Date: Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th October 2019, Hawkhills, Easingwold, YO61 3EG

For staff from Hull, York and Teesside, there is fully funded specialist training available to help you kick-start your entrepreneurial ambitions. If you want to explore the world of business start-ups, spin-outs and commercialisation in the bioeconomy, this course is for you. You don’t have to have a business concept to develop, just an interest and enthusiasm for taking an idea from bench to market. The course will help you learn how to recognise and capitalise on an entrepreneurial opportunity, and to understand the first steps to building a successful start-up in the bioeconomy. Held in a beautiful country house setting outside York, this training will include the following:

  • how to generate your first business idea, start your own company and pitch it to investors
  • first-hand inspiration from the latest biobased start-ups
  • mentoring sessions with successful business leaders and investors
  • peer-to-peer learning and networking with other entrepreneurs-in-the-making
  • live business pitch to a panel of specialists in the sector

What is included:

  • all course materials
  • all teaching, lecturing and mentoring
  • accommodation and catering at Hawkhills House in the Yorkshire countryside
  • social programme to encourage networking

What previous participants have said:

“If you are interested in developing a business/start up – go for it!”

“Get involved if you’re interested in the bioeconomy, want to know more, or have a specific product in mind.”

“Even though I’m not in a situation to start my own business now, I have learnt a lot about the process which can benefit me in the future. I have also gained other skills to help me in any career.”

Who is eligible

Academic staff, post-docs, PhD students and knowledge exchange professionals working at the Universities of York, Teesside and Hull with an interest in commercialising research relevant to the bioeconomy.
