The BDC has been established to assist businesses in developing new processes to convert plants and biowastes into profitable green products. 

We focus on high value chemicals used in pharmaceuticals, personal care, fragrance and flavours as well as surfactants and surface coatings.  Our science-based approaches can also optimise conversion of biorenewable raw materials into feed, fibres, composites, biofuels, fibres or other materials.

Our business support service includes:

Waste consultancy including a service to analyse agricultural, manufacturing and retail waste streams to identify opportunities for adding value to these by using them as feedstocks for manufacture of profitable green products.

 

Feedstock optimisation our unit can source and develop plants and microbes as production systems for industry.

 

 

New processes we provide open access laboratory and scale-up facilities for extracting high value chemicals from plants and biowastes using natural solvents and techniques such as low temperature microwave extraction.

 

BDC staff have a long track record of successful work with businesses and charitable organisations to develop technology for creating new products from renewable raw materials.
